Over 200 students, faculty, staff, and community members attended the first annual UW Data Science Summit, a two-day conference hosted by the eScience Institute. The cross-disciplinary event, which was held on the Seattle campus, featured keynote speakers Emily Fox of the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering and the Department of Statistics, and Jevin West of the Information School.

A wide variety of subjects were presented in talks given by other departmental speakers, industry professionals, students, postdoctoral fellows and eScience staff members. Participants enjoyed tutorials, a poster session, a virtual reality demo, and networking opportunities. The Master of Science in Data Science Program graciously sponsored a coffee service as well.

Congratulations to the winners of the lightning talk and poster sessions:

Lightning Talks
Best talk: Mayoore Jaiswal, Electrical Engineering & Global Good Research
Honorable mention: Tony Cannistra, Biology

Posters
Best poster: Kelsey Maass, Applied Mathematics
Honorable mention: Kaelan Yu, Department of Medicine

Sincere thanks to all those who helped make this event a success. We couldn’t have done it without you!
