Yuan Hsiao is an incoming assistant professor in the Communications Department at the University of Washington. His research focuses on combining data science and network analyses to study the diffusion of social behavior and attitudes, such as participating in a protest, promoting health-related behavior, or spreading fake news. Mainly, he draws from social media data from YouTube, Twitter and Facebook to conduct interdisciplinary research, with an emphasis on combining social theory with advanced methods. Yuan pursued a PhD degree in Sociology and a MS degree in Statistics from the University of Washington.
