Ben’s undergraduate studies were in Biological Engineering at Montana State University with research through the Center for Biofilm Engineering. His PhD work was in Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University developing imaging techniques to study the spatial structure of microbial communities. He is now working in the Armbrust Lab studying how microbial communities in the open ocean acquire iron.
