Jannes is a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Washington’s Cooperative Institute for Climate, Ocean, and Ecosystem Studies (CICOES), with affiliations at UW Oceanography and the NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL). His research focuses on 4-dimensional analysis of oxygen distributions in the ocean, with the aim of better understanding how the ocean is ventilated – that is, how oxygen is taken up from the atmosphere and subsequently spreads within the interior ocean.
Prior to his current position, he received a B.Sc. in Earth and Space Sciences from Jacobs University Bremen (Germany) in 2013 and a Ph.D. in Oceanography from Scripps Institution of Oceanography in 2020, and was a postdoctoral scholar at Dalhousie University from 2020-2023.
