Senior Data Science Fellow, Director of Research, Life Sciences
Biological Sciences, Engineering, Reproducibility & Open Science, Software Engineering
Dr. David Beck is a Research Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering and a member of the eScience team. Beyond his biology and chemistry domain expertise, Dr. Beck provides experience in scientific data analytics and mining, parallel programming techniques for data intensive computing and high performance computing applications, and general software design & engineering support.
His major projects involve (meta)genomics, (meta)transcriptomics, (meta)proteomics and molecular mechanics. He is the author of in lucem Molecular Mechanics (ilmm), a scalable parallel software environment for molecular mechanics simulation and analysis. ilmm is the simulation system used in the Dynameomics project.
He is an editorial board member for the journal Computers in Biology and Medicine(Elsevier). He serves on the DOE supercomputing NERSC User’s Group Executive Committee (NUGEX) for a three year term as an OBER representative and has served on several DOE requirements gathering panels for supercomputing. Dr. Beck has a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry / Biomolecular Structure & Design from the University of Washington and a B.S. in Computer Science from Drexel University.
