Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering
Biography
Shima Abadi is an assistant professor in the Mechanical Engineering program at UW Bothell and an affiliate assistant professor in the Electrical Engineering Department at UW Seattle. Her research primarily focuses on acoustical signal processing, underwater acoustics, and animal bioacoustics.
She uses the audio signals recorded by large underwater acoustic networks to study how sound propagates in the ocean. In particular, she is interested to study the impact of man-made noises on marine mammals. She uses machine learning to predict future trends in ocean noise levels.
