Biography
Landung “Don” Setiawan is a software development engineer for the University of Washington (UW) School of Oceanography. Previously, Don was an environmental data specialist for the Environmental Information Systems Department at the UW Applied Physics Laboratory. He provided software and research support for various projects with Emilio Mayorga and Anthony Arendt.
Don is currently an affiliate Technical Specialist with the eScience Institute’s Hackweek program. He is very excited to work with others on designing, developing, and maintaining scientific data analysis systems. He has expertise in Python programming, web development, geospatial data analytics, and cloud-based data engineering that he is very excited to share. Don received his Bachelor’s Degree in Oceanography from the UW with a focus on ocean technology, and geospatial data analysis and management through the development of wave sensor buoys to study the spatial variability of oceanic waves. He was also actively involved with Marine Technology Society, OceanGate Foundation, Benthic Acoustic Mapping and Survey, Ocean Observatory Initiative-Interactive Oceans, and served as the Information Technology Lead for Exploration and Remote Instrumentation by Students.
