Afra Mashhadi is a research scientist in the field of Ubiquitous Computing. Her current research is on Computational Social Science where she leverages data mining techniques to uncover human behavioural patterns; and Human Computer Interactions (HCI) where she aims to design human-centric systems based on the aforementioned traits.
In particular her main focus is on CrowdSensing which refers to the data collection methodology where information is gathered from the participants through either explicit CROWD-sourcing or implicit pervasive SENsing. She has applied this methodology to big urban datasets in order to understand more about cities and citizens and more recently to the workplace environment.
Results of her research have been published in top-tier conferences (WSDM, CHI, CSCW, Ubicomp, ICWSM) and journals.
