George (Quinn) Brencher is a postdoctoral scholar working with Dr. David Shean in Civil and Environmental Engineering. Quinn’s research uses large satellite datasets and machine learning to study water resources and natural hazards in mountain environments. Specifically, he develops novel approaches that integrate complementary remote sensing techniques to map regional snow depth and quantify processes associated with mountain hazards such as landslides and glacial lake outburst floods.
Quinn grew up in Connecticut and received bachelor’s degrees in geology and biology from Middlebury College in 2020. He completed his PhD in civil and environmental engineering at the University of Washington in 2025. Quinn aspires to be a well-rounded naturalist and enjoys backpacking, running, cartography, restaurants, and reading Wikipedia articles out loud.
