Welcome to the eScience Institute’s hackweek program! Get info about applying for our events, and a list of all upcoming hackweeks.
How to Apply
- Review the Hackweek mission to decide if the program model is a good fit for you.
- Browse the list of current hackweeks below to see if there is a program that interests you.
- Visit that hackweek’s sub-pages to learn more about the application process, important deadlines, and requirements for each event.
Who Can Apply?
Our hackweeks are designed to be inclusive and accessible to a wide range of participants. Graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, research staff, technicians, and software professionals can all benefit from our events. At this time students at the undergraduate and high school level are not eligible for enrollment.
Our peer learning model is designed to support learners of a wide range of experience levels. Participants will benefit most from a hackweek if they arrive with a knowledge of data science fundamentals. Specific pre-requisites are listed for each hackweek.
Are the hackweeks in person, virtual, or hybrid?
Each hackweek is unique! Please visit the website for the event you are interested in to learn what format will be used. As of 2022 we have begun offering in-person hackweeks, but this may evolve as we respond to the uncertainties surrounding COVID-19.
Do you charge a fee?
This depends on the availability of funding and whether the event is held in person or virtually. Most of our past events had no registration fee, but participants are often required to cover their own travel and lodging (for in-person events). Please visit the individual hackweek websites for more details.
Do you offer financial support for participants?
Yes, many hackweeks have a budget to support participant travel and lodging costs. Our goal in offering this support is to make our events as accessible as possible. Please visit the specific hackweek application forms to learn more about requesting financial support.

“My experience at OceanHackWeek was a once in a lifetime learning experience. I learned not only from more advanced researchers but also telling what I knew to my group partners. I definitely recommend OWH for everyone that is eager to learn.”
