Biography
Jessica is a glaciologist, open-source software developer, remote sensor, open science advocate, and lifelong lover of snow, winter, and the outdoors. With a background in glaciology, remote sensing, and climate science, she is currently a Research Assistant Professor at the University of New Hampshire, where she works on glaciological research, research-enabling open-source software projects, collaborative development education, and climate justice and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Jessica began collaborating with the eScience Institute in 2019 after participating in the inaugural ICESat-2 Hackweek. She became a member of the eScience Hackweek team in 2020 and has since co-led multiple Hackweek events. She is also the lead developer and maintainer of the icepyx Python library for accessing and working with ICESat-2 data (a product of the 2019 event). When she’s not working, you can often find Jessica encouraging people to make positive life changes (for themselves and the environment), dancing, hiking, skiing, or working on a big building project.
