Biography
Hedwig (Hedy) Lee was an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Washington in Seattle; she is now a Professor of Sociology at Washington University in St. Louis. Hedy studies the manifestations of racial and other social inequalities in online and offline contexts and the impacts these inequalities have on social and physical wellbeing. She received her BS in Policy Analysis and Management from Cornell University, College of Human Ecology in 2003 and her PhD in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2009.
After receiving her PhD, Lee was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health & Society Scholar at the University of Michigan from 2009 to 2011. She is currently a faculty affiliate of the Center for Communication, Difference and Equity, the Center for Research on Demography and Ecology, the West Coast Poverty Center and the Center for Statistics and the Social Sciences and on the advisory board of the Social Media (SoMe) Lab at the University of Washington. She also co-directs the Northwest Regional Branch of the Scholars Strategy Network (SSN).
