How can I be a part of the eScience Institute?

There are lots of way to connect with our data science community. A good way to begin is to click on or hover over the “Get Involved” tab listed at the top of the page. It will display a drop-down menu including a list of upcoming events, conferences, seminars and program offerings. We welcome new people and hope you find something that’s of interest.

I have the perfect research project for you. Can we work together?

We value collaboration between our data scientists and researchers but regret that we cannot work on all opportunities that are sent our way. A great way to determine if we can assist with a project is to join us at one of our Office Hours sessions. A data science expert will help you to determine what the best course of action is for your project.

I want to contribute to one of your research projects. How do I do that?

For researchers with backgrounds in certain topics, the Institute hosts Special Interest Groups on the following topics: Reproducible Science and Open Source Software, Data Science Education and Career Paths, Data Science Studies, Neuroinformatics, Satellite Image Analysis, and Algorithmic Foundations for Data Science. If you’d like to join one, please see this page: https://escience.washington.edu/special-interest-groups/

What kind of data science degrees do you offer?

The Institute does not offer any degrees at all! However, we have championed implementing new data science options within departments across at both the undergraduate and graduate level the UW campus. You can find a list of the programs offered on our Education page. We also have a list of all data science courses currently being offered here. If you are interested in a Professional Masters program in Data Science check out https://www.datasciencemasters.uw.edu/.

I urgently need time-sensitive research help. Where can I turn?

Please join a data scientist for their Office Hours (find the calendar of their availability here) or email one or more of the providers to request assistance.

Where are you located?

We are in the WRF Data Science Studio, on the sixth floor of the Physics/Astronomy Tower (PAT). The physical address is 3910 15th Ave NE, Seattle, WA. If you are mailing something to us, please include our box number 351570. See our Visit Us page for parking information, directions and other details. Some workshops, seminars and trainings are held outside of the studio space; be sure to check your confirmation details beforehand to ensure you’re in the right place.

Your space is so cool! Can I reserve it for my event?

We are very fortunate to have the WRF Data Science Studio space, and frequently have different groups work together here. After the Institute has scheduled its events, the spaces are opened up to departments in the Physics/Astronomy Tower, and then to other eScience-affiliated faculty and groups. Outside groups may also use the space with prior approval and completion of a short preparatory session. You can find room capacities and ways to configure the space in this document.
