Please join us for an end-of-year Unreading Group on Wednesday, December 4th from 11:30am-12:30pm in the Meeting Room of the WRF Data Science Studies Studio, 6th Floor of the Physics/Astronomy Tower.
What is an Unreading Group, you may be wondering? You’ve probably heard of an unconference …. this is a vaguely similar idea. Instead of pre-determining content that we all agree to read in advance, we’ll discuss whatever readings are on folks’ minds.
Please come prepared to share with the group:
1) Something you read in 2019 that was particularly interesting, inspiring, infuriating, ingenious, etc.
2) Something you’re looking forward to reading in 2020
You don’t need to prepare a scholarly treatise, just tell us why your chosen work is interesting, what makes it good, what it helps you think about, etc. This is an opportunity to get exposed to a variety of Data Science Studies literature, and maybe help you populate your reading list for 2020.
The only guideline is that the readings we discuss should be broadly related to Data Science Studies. In other words, work that takes data-intensive science, methods, pedagogies, technologies, or epistemologies as objects of study in order to interrogate their production, use, consequences, discourses, etc.
Bring a lunch, if you so choose. We will provide coffee, tea, and home-made holiday cookies.
Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org if you plan to come.
