We expect all students to treat the DSSG program as their primary obligation for this 10-week period, and to participate in program activities full time (i.e. 40 hours/week except holidays). Exact work hours will be negotiated within teams, including project leads, data scientists, and fellow students.
When it comes to scheduling program-wide activities, we’ve made an effort to not schedule anything before 9:00am PDT (12:00pm EDT) or after 3:00pm PDT (6:00pm EDT). We encourage teams to schedule their co-working sessions and meetings within this time frame as well, and to be flexible with individual work schedules. For example, we hope it will be possible for those on the east coast to do their individual work during the morning in their time zone and for those on the west coast to do their individual work during the afternoon in their time zone, so that everyone will be able to maintain a roughly normal working schedule. But the exact configuration will depend on how work is shared and distributed across teams.
We ask teams to discuss work schedules while crafting their Project Charter documents and come to mutual agreement.

- Project website
- Final presentation
- Feedback surveys
Student fellows are permitted to miss up to two days of program activities for pre-planned purposes (e.g. vacation, conference, travel). Absences should be arranged in advance with permission from program staff and relevant project lead(s).
In the event of unanticipated absence due to medical conditions or emergencies, please communicate directly with program leadership, your project lead, and, if appropriate, team members.
